DAF Trucks Began Production Of New Electric Trucks

Feb 22, 2023

A new electric truck assembly workshop has been opened at DAF Truck Factory in Edhoven. It is designed for electric trucks on the XD and XF electric models. The manufacture of environmentally friendly machines is carried out according to a multi-stage scheme. It all starts with the chassis, known as the fuselage, assembled on the main conveyor and equipped with a cab, but without the usual power cord used for internal combustion engine trucks.

There are two production lines in the new workshop. One is to assemble the battery, and the second is mounted on the chassis of the high-voltage equipment (including the battery). Each electric truck is then tested at a special station.

The electric truck assembly will assemble the 6x2 and 4x2 chassis, as well as the 4x2 saddle tractor. As with diesel, each DAF electric truck is built with specific customer requirements in mind. These machines can be fitted with two Paccar motors with six power options - from 170 to 350 kW. Batteries are installed in a modular manner. Customers choose a different number of blocks: from two to five, with capacities ranging from 210 to 525 kWh and power reserves ranging from 200 to 500 km. Even the roomiest battery pack can charge from 80% to 45% in as little as 0 minutes, thanks to its fast charging feature.

It should be noted that the DAF model of the new delivery series XD became the winner of the prestigious competition for the 2023 International Truck Title. Using all the best of the XF, XG and XG+ range of cars, she won the International Truck of the Year title only in 2022.
